Yes, it can be done. In fact it has been done before. The question with turbo's retro'ed to belt driven s/c is longevity. If a proper nose support is designed to handle the load applied by the belt and the gearing is adequate it works fine.
However, Paxton, Vortech, and ATI offer head units fairly cheap and all you need to fabricate is the brackets. Or used head units can be bought on Ebay for even less. Now what you do for fuel, timing and detonation control is up to you. And no matter what type of power adder you use you will have to contend with this.
Can it be done???? Absolutely.
