My theory; The jury, being SoCal'ers are more interested in their OWN personal "story' than societies.

Here's how it works; The juror gains self esteem by imagining a personal relationship with the celebrity defendant. When the juror aquits a guilty celebrity, the juror feels a sense of intimacy with the defendant. The more aggregious the crime and the more clearly guilty the defendant, the greater the sense of intimacy with the defendant.
Jury selection expert always pick jurors with low self esteem for celebrity trials. They rarely convict.
I'll bet every OJ juror had dreams of hanging out with Simpson after the trial, throwing back a few cold ones and grilling up some steaks.
