I've got a pair of carbs being repaired at Bieker Engineering in Grants Pass OR right now. ( biekerengineering.com ) Call Harry at 541 955 9777.
He was telling me about a guy who had a set of 46 IDAs that had taken his car to many shops, none of them could get it to run right. He took the carbs off and discovered the throttle shaft was not parallel to the centerline of the carb bores. That was the cause, a Weber factory error. He corrected the error, car runs fine.
He also said he could bore out a 46 IDA into 48, and he could do 40s into 44, or 46mm
