You would have about 300hp with 9lbs and a 7th injector with the stock compression and still have the low end drivability with stock 8.51. Sutter ran his that way for many many years without a problem, the k27 or garrett turbos are so much quicker to the punch than the Rayjay I think you would be surprised at what performance 9lbs will get you without an intercooler with 92 octane gas. I started adding all the other stuff like the intercooler and pushed the boost up to 11 not because I was disappointed with the performance at 9lbs just because I ran out of things to do to my car and I love tinkering on it. The 914 was damn fast running at 9lbs coupled with the short gear lsd tranny. I sometimes have to ask myself why am I trying to push it further. My answer is there aren't any 12 step turbo boost groups that I can join to help me with my addiction.
I say keep it simple throw a 7th injector for fuel enrichment and a intercooler, stay at 8 or stock compression and keep the boost under 11 your eyes will be as big as moons until you get used to it. Then start looking for a 930 engine.
