of these guys - I know a few folks who dive over on this coast who know these guys pretty well - they are insane/hardcore.
One of my friends was diving a wreck on the west coast - they were in about 120 feet of water - calm day. They were chunking up some fish to get the fish active. One of the guys was fishing with a spinning rig and and a chunk of cut fish and hooked a pretty good size amberjack (50lb+). All of a sudden what can be described as a volkswagon bug came up from the deep and snatched the 50 lb amberjack like it was a tootsie roll.
It was a giant Jewfish (Golith Grouper). They had three divers on board and they all declined to go down. The Jewfish on the West coast have been known to attack divers - and the fact that it was probably over 1000 lbs didn't settle very well.
