I had a 2.0 from a bus in my 914. i rebuilt the carbs (40mm dells) and they were too big by just a hair. as i understand 40 dells are = to 44 webbers. one step up, so ive been told.
but you might want to take som thought to goint to hydrolyic. its sounds like a great idea, but are more likely to drop a valve. thats what happend to my 2.0
