As stated above, Permanone is the hot ticket. I use it &a liberal dose of DEET to keep the miserable little suckers off me. Even so, the occasional tick digs in.
Removal is best accomplished with a pair of good tweezers - grab the tick as close to your skin & pull GENTLY. You may have to rotate a bit, but pull firmly & gently. The idea is to not have the tick puke bacteria into your body & also to remove the entire tick, including mouth parts. Wash with alcohol, apply antiseptic ointment, have a strong drink & watch for infection, target rash or other symptoms as noted in other threads.
