I'll probably get banned for mentioning it, but I think the reason 924s don't get a fair shake from most is that they really don't LOOK very great. Those fender flares are a huge factor in making a 944 look good. And the clean front bumper is another step forward on the turbo/S2s.
Yes, this is my opinion (and a lot of others). But if you look at it from a non-biased view, the 924 is obviously the least good looking of the series.
That and the fact that they are the oldest/lowest performance of the group too. Sure, the 931s or the 87 Ss are quicker, but as a whole they're a step lower than the 944 in every measure, and so many people are already disappointed by the 944's lack of grunt.
Please don't take these comments as an insult or anything. 924s are obviously still cool/unique/fun cars. These are just the reasons I see for why they're looked down on.
