Nickd: you are right about the belts, I changed my '77 924 timing belt in about 45min first try, that's gotta be about the easist timing belt change there is. 944 belts are intimidating, but not too bad once you're prepared (better than Ferraris?).
I had serious brake fade and a lot of smoke one night coming home driving a bit agressively, and not really all that fast, I'm really conservative on the street. It's hard to believe that guys have any luck lapping with those single pot calipers and solid rotors, 924s are light, but not THAT light.
