Tabs has an end-around style sort of like Faulkner, but in the conclusion, he is correct.
Bombing after bombing, it has taken less time for the victims and the world at large to pick up again. Yes, 9.11 was the worst, and, in general, we've not fully recovered, but many things are back to normal.
People interviewed in Spain say that it took them about six weeks to get back up to speed.
Now, in Great Britain, London specifically, the majority of citizens were back to normal life the following day.
TV coverage loves to hammer the worst - schedenfraude as they are. Though not exactly "pointless" I would say that terrorist bombings are not as much a
never here possibility as they are, simply, a possibility that has been worked into daily life.
So with that, wouldn't it be interesting if Al Qaeda lost their campaign simply because of over-saturation, i.e. too many beheadings, too many bombings - all of which might render the shock value of their actions somewhat lacking in the usual effect.
