look at the root causes of the so-called "unrest" and "hate toward the west". AS long as the ME has the philosophy of mixing so thoroughly religion and politics, and as long as every Imam and Mullah is left to individually read the mid of God and use the "bully pulpit" to further their own causes, this situation will continue. The Governments control the religious officials as much as the religious officials control the government. If there are any "moderates" over there, they are scared spitless to say anything.
That is the danger of religion mixing with politics. It would be as dangerous over here to have "conservative christains" to take total charge of the government as it is "over there". That kind of situation results in a never ending circle of power and influence, intent on impressing the populace, fomenting unrest and maintaining instability.
Just my take, guys.. We can use the situation in the ME as a cautionary tale of what could happen here. Be careful of what you wish for.
