My motorcycle has straight cut gears but you can't hear them over the exhaust and wind witha helmet on.
My 1923 Packard had straight cut gears, but with that big, torquey motor, most of my driving was in top gear, which was a direct drive (no tranny gears). The indirects were really loud.
