I think that your exception "proves the rule" here. If all Mag cased CIS 911's had the care (and mods) you have given yours, well then we would just be seeing a lot of worn out fuel distributors, and injectors, and a few bad vacuum lines on these cars.
In the real world, most of these cars were bought and driven unmodified by their first owner, at least, causing a lot of abbreviated lifetimes...
Bottom line, a good car, with a good engine, with a lot of poorly concieved band aids hung on in the 1975-1980 time period.
