To clarify, it isn't hidden, it is disabled. It isn't like you can stumble across it by accident, you have to specificly find and download a patch, put out by someone who hacked the game to turn it on.
I am more amazed about the "protect the CHILDREN!" shrieking about a game that CLEARLY ISN'T INTENDED FOR CHILDREN!.
It says so right on the box:
It is hard to read in the photo, but it says:
Mature 17+
Blood and Gore
Intense Violence
Strong Language
Strong Sexual Content
Drug Use
Seems pretty clear to me, and if parents buy this for their kids, they are ****ty parents.
By the way, the strong language thing is an understatement. Heavy use of the "F" word, not to mention the main character "C.J." who is black refers to himself and all his friends as "nigga".
Now, you can download a mod from the internet that will show cartoons that look like they are having sex, in a game targeted at adults (that says Strong Sexual Content right on the box). How is this a big deal?
In order for your precious little children to see the cartoon C.J. banging his 'ho, they have to first:
Come up with the $50 to buy the game,
Find someone willing to sell them the game, (I am 37 years old, with a full beard, I got carded when I purchased GTA San Andreas at Best Buy)
Go out on the internet and find the patch, and install it.
Play the game for a several hours to get to the point where you meet your first girlfriend, then play another hour or so to get your "girlfriend" to the point she invites you in for "coffee". Then and only then, you see naked cartoon breasts.
For a lot less time and effort, you can find video of real people having actual sex, and much MUCH worse.
My guess is the sex mini game was something that was planned, but dropped sometime before the game was finished, and disabled in the code, but the preliminary artwork and game routine were never removed. There is no way to make it work without downloading the "Hot Coffee" mod. I say "preliminary artwork" because C.J. is fully clothed, and the animated "girlfriend" changes. The first "girlfriend" in the game is black. With the mod, when you go inside she becomes white.
You want to see what the all the fuss is about? One of the GTA News Sites captured the video and audio of a sucessful date, you can see it here:
The link is clearly not safe for work.

If you don't want to download it, here is a synopsis: a nude cartoon woman, viewed from behind, performing oral sex on a fully clothed male cartoon, which is the player. You can see naked cartoon breasts, and a naked cartoon butt. Then the cartoons move to the missionary position, and then a couple other positions. There is an "excitement" bar on the screen that starts at about 50%, you move up and down (with the arrow keys) until the "excitement" bar reaches 100%. Acompanied by basic porn movie grunting and groaning, of course.
B.F.D.
It is much less graphic than
Basic Instinct, or
Original Sin, or
Nine 1/2 Weeks all of which had a movie rating of "R", which is essentially the same as the Game rating of "M", ages 17 and over.
What is really absurd about this whole thing is you can have sex in The Sims 2, and that has a "Teen" rating. Does that mean Black people having sex in the 'hood is bad, but white people having sex in a hot tub is OK?
It is even more bizarre when you consider that it is Hillary Clinton calling for investigations, when her husband is the reason many youngsters first heard of oral sex.

They previously tried to limit the release/content of GTA because of violence against police officers etc

Which is also a load of B.S. Killing is certainly part of the game, but those that you are required to kill in the game are criminals, gangsters and drug dealers. As the game is interactive, and the game world is full of all sorts of people, you can certainly kill police if you want, but there is no reward for it, in fact there are penalties, as more police come and try and kill you.
You can however get in a police car and fight crime, or an ambulance and take people to the hospital, or a fire truck and fight fires, all of which there are rewards for. That part always seems to get skipped by the game banning bunch.
