It can be tough! very tough.
I am assuming you are talking about the drive axle (with the cv joints attached).
I recommend you remove the axle with the axle stub (hub) attached. then you can seperate the two later.
Remove the large nut from the axle stub (hub). Using a stout hammer or mini sledge / drill hammer, drive the axle stub toward the engine. This is easier if you can heat the trailing arm around the bearing area. You also may want to place something between the axle stub and your hammer for you to strike.
if you don't have anyone to hold the axle while you stike then use some rope to support it .
Once you have the whole thing out, remove the cv joint bolts from the hub end and carefully pry apart the cv joint from the hub. Remember there are two rolled pins between them that provide a tight fit.
This is the toughest part of the whole job. patience and keep at it.
