I had a '77 Targa that the wife purchased before we were married. But, when I say I had a 911, well, you know who took care of it.

Her brother (the bodyshop guy) and I repainted it, glass out, the same Guards Red and we had the Fuchs polished. I'll tell you that car was a warrior. After 100,000 miles plus in the family, it had some real issues even though it got an Andial motor job at about 100,000. It was showing 180,000 when we let it go at Pomona for $6800 in '95. The turn signal stalk ws not working and so the low beams wouldn't come on, only the highs. I switched the wires (bad, I know). The chains were rattling a little even though Andial said they were OK. Scared the buyers, that's for sure, hence the low price. I had put about 12 brake light switches in the M/C and was real tired of that routine. And the paint we did faded in the rear because of sitting in an open garage with its rear end in the sun whenever the door was open, which was a lot. The front hed to be repainted due to some Nevada rock truck damage. Nevada is where they drive those triple trailers and spill the rocks everywhere. You find out about that too late. The car was not the same color from front to back anymore.
So, with all that going on and no Pelican or Internet to find out about all the things one can do to repair things like the stalk and the chains, I quit on the thing. She has a Boxster now, same color and is happy. Can't complain. Neither one was/is my favorite car anyway.
Speaking of selling cars, I bet the '71 S is gone within 2 years. I have plans for a later year, possilby '78 to '88 with some RUF style mods except for the turbo. A very light weight car with some serious attention to the brakes and suspension. Might be a car that goes along the lines of Jack's BBII. Rather than backdate, I will simply loose the bumpers in favor of something badass, areodynamic and racey. I'm starting to like the concept of slipping in a 3.6 and forgetting about it. Maybe a G50 car.
So, right there are two reasons to sell a car.
