The monza exhaust does look sporty but the performance bites, big time. When I first got my 70, it had a 1.7 with the Monza. Could not get it to rev past 4500 rpms. Pulled it off and put on a nice Bursch and I was able to rev cleanly up to the redline.
It had a good tone and I did sound like a 40hp VW going down the road. I uncorked it once and put on a straight pipe at an autocross event to see how it would work. The performance dropped noticeably at low end. The top end was better, but not enough to get over the headache from no muffler.
I did the same thing with my 3.0 six that is now in the same car, with the same results. Fuel Injected engines like back pressure. Cops like quiet motors. Go with the Bursch, it won't let you down.
