Speculation: So he is going to leave that redoubt of safety and risk getting caught by the US, Afghanis, Pakistanis or Iraqis to go to a place which is much MORE accessible? Make no sense.
Especially because the Baathist part of the insurgency would desperately like talks with the government and is opposed to the Islamists. Osama would make a nice bargaining chip on their behalf.
Plus, I am sure the few remaining taliban would really appreciate the fact that he is abondoning them.
