"Clinton" is named after DeWitt Clinton, former governor of New York State; there's a park on 11th Avenue in the Fifties named after him. The locals play softball there. Several cases of beer are consumed per inning and balls are frequently hit over the fence. Play is stopped until the ball is retreived.

Hell's Kitchen consists of a mix of low-rise brick tenements with the occasional 50-story residential high-rise thrown in. The main thoroughfare is 9th Avenue, which has a dizzying number of bars and restaurants featuring every cuisine and sub-cuisine imaginable. Want Afghan food following your Harp lagers? Brazillian Churrasco next to hipster Sushi. Unlike many other residential neighborhoods in New York, Hell's Kitchen retains it's 1950's feeling, although it has also suffered from the influx of chain stores and restaurants.

It got the name "Hell's Kitchen" from an Irish gang that ran there in the 1860's-- the Police gave it that name.
