So I'm on a short vacation on Saltspring Island this weekend and I discover the car pictured below parked in the courtyard of a house where a couple of hippies are selling used books. I know there's been a few threads on this subject recently, but this appears to be a genuine Short Weelbase 911S. There weren't many of thes emade were there?
*Saltspring is one of many island in the Georgia Straght/ Straight of Juan de Fuca where old hippies, artists, rich folks and eccentrics go to live out their days in relatrive peace and quiet. It so happens that a lot of professional types like my in-laws also keep their recreational properties there.*
Anyway - I ask what the deal is with the car and one of the hippies says (in his best Tommy Chong voice) "..no way man, don't even think about it, he's going to fix the car up one day and let his girlfriend drive it.."
Now the house in shambles AND the guy doesn't even live there anymore, and apparantly rarely visits even. Judging by the T-bird parked in the carport all covered in moss, I'm going to go ahead and predict that this COMPLETLY salvagable SWB 911S will never turn a wheel again. The only glimmer of hope is that there is a for sale sign on the house, so if the place sells the owner might be forced to do something with the car. I don't think the place will sell anytime quickly though. It's not in a good recreational property location.
I peeked through the engine grill and the carbs are missing, and so are the valve covers. The interior is pretty trashed, but the body looks sound without any visible rust. Curiously it has a RS style front bumper. I don't know what to make of the whole situation. AAAUGH!
