Mike,
What Azasadny said. But it seemed to me you were describing a kid with Attention Deficit Disorder (seeing things all at once, etc.). ADD was described to me as not being able to filter out the important stimuli vs. the unimportant so everything is a distraction. Psychostimulants (Ritalin Straterra-a new one) juices up the "filter" so the stimuli aren't so overwhelming. Autism, or "Autistic Spectrum Disorders" is an inability to comprehend and/or "process" social cues, make emotional attachments, have empathy, and in some cases, inability to differentiate animate from inanimate objects. A fascination with spinning, rotating or oscillating objects and unbelievable mathemtic (arithmetic) skills and triva are also frequently expressed in autistic disorders. Autism is a very weird condition with unknown cause and unknown cure. It expresses itself in a wide variety and degree of impairment. Some (me) theorize autism results from precocious cognitve development that precedes physical development in utero. Do you put the tomatoes in last?
