Lets make sure the shifter is actually connected to the transmission.
1. One simple thing to check is the universal coupler between the shifter and the transmission shifting shaft tube at the front of the trans.
2.Also remove and check the bottom of the shifter itself to make sure the shifting shaft tube is attached to the shifter.
