Ahhh, but the greens managed to get a no hunting Cougars with hounds initiative on the ballot and it passed. Now we're paying the price, since it'll illegal to hunt after sunset, and Cougars are nocturnal predators, nearly impossible to see in the daytime, can't really be hunted without the help of dogs.
Same thing happened here. No more bait for bears; no more hounds for cougars or bears. It started in California, so maybe they deserve a gator or two. Funny thing is, the houndsmen are busier now in California going after "problem" cats than they ever were sport hunting them with paying clients. Now the state, i.e. the taxpayers, pay them to hunt. More cats get killed now than before the hunting ban. I guess it makes the "greens" feel better to think no one is having fun killing them, though. Coyotes are the big problem in my area now, with articles in all of the Seattle area papers warning folks to keep cats and dogs in after dark. At least it's too cold in the winter here for crocs and gators to survive. We have had a few dumped in local lakes over the years; we just stay clear until winter and wait till they slow down and stiffen up a bit. Pretty easy to catch then.
