That doesn't surprise me much. PETA types push stuff like that, and have no conscious grasp of the consequences. There's no other thought in it aside from 'animals are ALL good, and we should NEVER kill any of them! ... let's have a group hug'
I think if it's managed and regulated well, the population can be kept at a healthy level for the environment.
