I positively get incensed when yahoos bash President Bush. He has done so much for this country - like the Clean Skies Act. (The beauty of this creates zones for coal power plants to emit the same or more emissions if there are newer cleaner plants in the same zone which don't emit as much, but the total output of all plants in that zone don't exceed X%. No one is forced to clean up their emissions (read acid rain and increasing asthma and lung disease) but we do get a snappy catch phrase for it - kind of like 'No Child Left Behind' - where schools are closed if they don't meet federal mandated test scores - but then there is no provision for the displaced children of closed schools in the surrounding schools. Then there is hill top mining in Kentucky, where the tops of mountains are bulldozed into the surrounding valleys leaching toxic chemicals into the near by streams and lakes, and no amount of profit could pay for resurecting the devistated landscape. Then there is no substancial increase in CAFE standards to increase fuel economy of cars to help us become less dependant on foreign oil from Arabian countries which tollerate terrorists responsible for 9/11 (none Iraqi). And then there is allowing mining companies left to 'monitor' their own waste (slag containing toxic chemicals leaching into our waterways). But don't get me wrong, he has helped the 'very needy' large corporations and the extremely wealthy with massive tax cuts - while running up huge deficit spending which our children's children will have to work to pay off, which would provide them with great job security if outsourcing abroad wasn't encouraged by tax incentives. So please stop bashing our president. He has made long lasting and sometimes irreversable contributions to our country, our environment, our health, and long term economic health. And its good to see that he has not only seen fit that not only we americans benefit by his good acts, but is now exporting them to other countries like Iraq, so they can benefit as well - if they stop killing each other and us long enough to realize the great things to come.
