The feds managing the economy is not usually a good idea. The recent past beltway managing is more politic vote getting than intelligent economics. So that also means there is a 50% chance that you disagree with this?

If still there?
Any state can foster a competitive atmosphere with other states. This all starts with the governor who's job is to incite the voters and push his policies. This is very complicated on the inner political level but not on the business $ level.

who knows.. maybe these states will be in such a weak negotiating position that they will start a serious competitive race with other states. Poland did it as well as many others in their sphere. That they didn't have old capitalist baggage to carry foreword was a definite advantage. Anyway, for instance, a state like NY is an old school economic mess. There is a long term trend in competing for their retiring well off baby boomers and NY state gov't knows it. States have lots of options with good state management. If a good PR group can warn you of the dangers of their product, lose billions to attorney generals, and put warning labels on their products And still make tons of money then I would have to say that these devastated states have a lot of options in a competitive open economy.. including N.O.
