That's on the twin cams, the single cams aren't too terribly expensive.
It also helps to find a mechanic that isn't necessarily the dealership. I've head that shopping around can make maintenance costs up to 66% cheaper.
And just like with anything.... You can always buy the shop manual and tools, and do it yourself
