Look for an early gun that has been refinished. They usually don't bring the full pop. I bought my 1911, Govt. Iss. made in 1917 for only $650.00 because it was refinished. It was a steal at that even. The Springfield gun is good. Look at Gunbroker.com or gunsamerica.com to get a feel for what is out there. Then buy locally. Buying a gun on the internet is dicey. Just use it to check out the market. I just saw a Govt. issue officers mdl. in the box (old) for $875.00. Unfired.
