As long as the jumpers are set correctly on the old hard drive the new computer should see the second hard drive as a slave and allow you access to it. Its being a boot drive or having 2000 should not be an issue.
Make sure your jumpers are set correctly and try it again. Did you try "adding hardware" after putting the drive in? You should not have to but it might work. What is the OS on the new computer?
