I didn't know about the bolt spacing difference Tyson explained.

But at some point not too long after 1977 the shape of the bracket and of the bushing that goes in it changed from a flat floored bracket to one like this: \__/. With Weltmeister stuff you can get a bushing to fit either the flat or the part-hex bracket. And if all else fails, it is not difficult to cut off the bracket you have, grind the leftovers down somewhat, and weld in a new bracket. This usually includes purchasing one of the reinforced brackets, which is a good upgrade in itself.

This was one of the first welding jobs I did, and even my cruddy welds have proven sufficient to hold up for 15 years or so.
