The government so stupid!

I just finished watching a live segment on Fox News. It showed a group of "rescuers" in New Orleans breaking into secured homes searching for people who were dead or in need of rescue. They are planning on doing this house-to-house search through-out the entire city.

This is so damm inefficient, and so stupid it is almost beyond belief. The government is wasting time, damaging private property and leaving people's homes in a state where it will be unsecured when people start returning to the area.

The government is handing out $2000 to all the evacuees. Why don't they get the names and addresses of all these people getting this money, and before giving out this money, get additional information from these people as to whether or not their homes were secured when they left, if anyone was left behind at their address, if there were any pets left at their address, etc.

The government could then put this information in a database and get it on laptops to the searchers on the ground in New Orleans. This way the "rescue" personnel wouldn't have to break into houses that were secured; they could concentrate their rescue and recover efforts at those addresses without information from the residents, or with people or pets likely to be inside.

I guess such an undertaking would just make too much sense and be too efficient for the government to implement...
