This is why Randall got to be famous in the first place.
You can spend a lot of $$$ if you want, but I doubt you'd put a collector knife in a survival pack. I would choose a folder of 3-4 inches blade length with a combo serrated and straight edge for a "multifunction survival knife". Won't be a good "sticker" knife (for which you should have something fixed/full tang), but will be the most versatile. I have the Gerber X-change blade (mentioned earlier), and it works reasonably well. However, I believe that Gerber is no longer doing business. Spyderco, Buck, Kershaw are all good production knives that I've used. Benchmade is supposed to be good (no experience).
Even some of the military surplus survival knives are pretty good for the fixed blade option.
