Bring the camera. And lots of memory--CF and SD cards over there are much more expensive (on the order of 50% to 100% more).
Bring small gifts for anyone you may be imposing upon or seeing for a while (don't know about business-related though). California-related trinkets will work (we always bring AZ related stuff--especially good tequila).
Bring a handkerchief to keep in your pocket--most public restrooms don't have anything to dry your hands with.
