Sounds to me like the mechanic is a well meaning fellow but just not up to speed on 915's. I can't tell if he used gaskets or just used sealant.
Pull the trans. Take the nose cone off, scape all the gasket material off and address any nicks or gouges in the sealing surface.
Smear some sealant into a new gasket (Loctite 518, Curil T, 3Bond 1211, Audi transmission sealant, etc) and reinstall.
That gasket is part # 915.301.351.00
There is no reason for one of those transmissions to leak from a case seam.
