While I agree that the biggest changes start locally, it does nothing to get rid of our potentially corrupt and inept leadership at the federal level. Improving the local school is a very noble act, but it's like remodeling your kitchen while the siding is falling off the house and windows are being broken by thugs throwing rocks.
The easiest and hardest way to change government at the national and state level is simply vote for somebody other than the established pro. Democrats and Republicans are similiar. Vote Libertarian or Green Party. The shock of losing to a Libertarian candidate would cause a revolution in the Democratic/Republican parties. Until then, the two big parties will ignore the will of all Americans. When's the last time a Democrat or Republican (outside of state officials) supported border control?
