Actually, I think of it completely differently. You aren't "free" if you feel you need to live in a gated community.
You also have no chance of understanding the other 99.9% of the population, or the other 95% of your neighbourhood. "Gated community" seems like a great way of growing children up with inbuilt prejudices.
