Hey Lubemaster,

Very interesting thread, which brought to mind a lubrcation question I have for you, as you really seem to be a master.
Seriously, my boat engine (4.3L chevy V6) has been running like crap lately, I have done a compression check, and found a cylinder at 100 psi, while all others were at 130-140 psi. Hoping that it is just some carbon buildup around a valve, I bought a bottle of Gunk valvemedic treatment, which I have to pour in my crankcase and run the engine. I suppose it contains a solvent that will mix with the oil, and dissolve deposits (carbon, varnish...). My questions:
1- Is it safe for my engine
2- Is this kind of treatment usually efficient, or am I just wasting my money?

Thanks,

Aurel
