Skip, you and Gen. Meyers are right, and I'm sorry to say that we already lost Iraq. Look at the poll numbers. Stick a fork in it, the Iraq effort is dead.

The only thing to do now is try to concentrate on the larger war on terrorism. And hope that this debacle didn't hurt us too badly (but of course it did).

Unlike others here, I don't blame Cindy Sheehan and her band of dysfunctional followers. Like almost every other failure in the past 5 years, this was a failure of leadership. Iraq poll numbers are not in the low 30's because of some protesters on the National Mall, don't kid yourself.

The American people are through with Iraq because this President failed to anticipate the effort that would be required, and failed to prepare the people for that effort. He asked for no sacrifice from us, instead acting like some cheap car salesman, telling us, in essence, that we could get something for nothing. We would be met by Iraqis with flowers, their oil would pay for reconstruction, the rag-tag "dead-enders" were in their last throes, and on and on and on.

Finally the American people just got up and walked out.

Guys like Mul and Flint will blame Cindy Sheehan, silly as that sounds. Thinking people know who to blame, and its not some mother of a dead soldier.
