I always thought the S was the 16 valve version of the 944 and the Turbo S was a turbo 16 valve. Is this correct?

I've always been able to identify the S from the wider cam tower. But I saw a picture of the engine in a turbo S and it had what looked like the narrower cam tower cover of the 2.5 liter motor.

Someone can clarify, I'd appreciate it.
