Yes, it does seem odd that the Porsche race cars ran both. I would think that this would put too much oil in the cam towers as well. I have never heard of the valve train being starved for oil as long as everything is running correctly. Even on a race car.
My set up is to run a 2.15L turbo, 7:1 compression, 1 to 1.4 bars of boost. I am anticipating my rpm band to run between 5500 and 7000. I have a short ratio transmission. I have not decided on a turbo yet, but it will be a newer style ball bearing turbo. The GT35R or the like.
This will be in a 2000lb 911 racer. I do not care how the car performs below even 4000 rpm. This is a dedicated track car with a first gear as tall as a standard second gear.
Any help would be appreciated.
