But a closer look reveals a one-sided probe that's focused only on donors who gave illegal gifts, and not government officials who accepted them.
All 26 prosecuted are Democrat donors: Pauline Kanchanalak, Duangnet Kronenberg, James Tjahaja Riady, Audrey Yu, Cha-Kuek Koo, Yi Chu, Man Ho, Maria Hsia, Yogesh Gandhi, Yah Lin "Charlie" Trie, Yuan Pei "Antonio" Pan, John Huang, Johnny Chung, Robert S. Lee, David Chang, Juan C. Ortiz, Mark B. Jimenez, Michael Brown, Lawrence Penna, Berek Don, Carmine Alampi, Howard Glicken, Franklin Haney (acquitted) and Nora, Gene and Trisha Lum.
Yet on the receiving end, no former White House or Democratic Party official – with the exception of Huang, who President Clinton installed at the Democratic National Committee in 1996 – has been prosecuted after nearly five years of investigation. (Justice first assigned lawyers to the case on Nov. 1, 1996. The task force was formed in January 1997.)
