Your post slipped off to the 2nd or 3rd page, & I saw it while trying to catch up after a day or so. On the old cars, I don't think the hand hold on the passenger's side is for closing the door. I believe it is for the passenger to hold on to during spirited driving - but is handy for closing the door. I also believe Porsche thought one on the driver's side might get in the way of the driver at some time, plus the driver wouldn't have a reason to hold on to it during "spirited driving."
