I just did this and I found it easy by using a very stiff putty knife. Just this week I changed all my gauges from black to white. I started by sliding it up under the metal bezel from the bottom while gripping the top of the gauge. I pried a little on the bottom then pulled from the top. As it started to loosen up I started to wiggle it side to side to. Then it came right out. The rest of the gauges come out even easier cause you can reach in and push them out without any problem. The rubber part will slide right off the back once the gauge is out.
Don't forget to draw a picture for yourself to where the wires go. I actually found this to be more helpful than all the pictures I took.
