3.2 engine breather drama!

Hi all

I was checking out the engine on my '87 3.2 last weekend and noticed that the hose from the engine to the oil tank looked a bit "odd". On looking closer it was apparant the the rubber had perished and the hose had collapsed - it was flat!

I ordered a new one and went to fit it this weekend - its an awkward job as it is difficult to reach the hose clip on the engine without significant dismantling but with perseverance I got it off. I then removed the oil tank end and .............. a mass of mayonaise and water fell out with a "slop" all over my engine!!!!!
Yuk!

The car has now gone to my mechanic for a service and to replace the oil hoses to the thermostat as they are leaking. I mentioned the mess I'd found and he pointed out that this emphasised the need for annual oil changes on lightly used cars, which mine is - only about 2K miles a year and last oil change 3 years ago!

Anyway, just a cautionary tale but I do wonder if there is corrosion inside the engine????

By the way, the idle is much better since the hose was changed.
