Right - the aluminum (silver coloured) channels are removable, they were installed in the SC and earlier models. Carreras use the black channels which are not removable.
Y'all have the remove the part across the front, and slide your bits and pieces out that way. It works - I've done it. Be carefull not to break your fragile wind deflector.
There's a tech artcile here somewhere which goes over the procedure for the Carrera models. Oh yeah - it took a while for us to figure out that you have to remove the T-shaped plates which attach the sliders to the roof. In other words, the roof has to be taken completely out of the car and then you can remove the cables.
Good luck - it's really an easy job once you've done it once or twice.
