GTP is a prototype car..
"This is the race car version of the 944. It raced in the 1981 24 Hours of LeMans and finished 7th overall, a quite credible showing for a new engine. Do keep in mind that this LeMans showing of the 944 was 2 years (in 1981) before the 944 car was even offered for sale (in 1983).
The GTP was powered by a 16-Valve variation of the 944 Engine which was then turbocharged, and the end result was an astounding 420RWHP ++ ( I`ve read somwhere 600hp )
. In addition to 7th place, the GTP spent just 56 minutes in the pits the whole race, the least time of any entrant. "
