Immigration:
"It just didn't work," Schwarzenegger said. "It backfired big-time. It sent the wrong message: You come here illegally, and then we go and give you amnesty. So then, the next million come and they say, 'Hey, we get amnesty, this is really terrific.'"

Supreme Court:
And Lustberg predicts Alito will be confirmed. "He's going to wow the Judiciary Committee. He's going to be every bit as impressive as John Roberts in his own soft-spoken way."

Tax Cuts, the economy (WallStreetJournal):
We now know something that blows stronger even than Hurricane Katrina: the amazing American economy. Third quarter GDP rose by 3.8%, the Commerce Department reported Friday, notwithstanding Katrina and Rita and all of the corollary damage they wrought...
The third-quarter result was even better if you strip out a reduction in private inventories, which knocked about half a percentage point off GDP growth. Figure in the blow from Katrina, and growth would have been in the neighborhood of 5%. Not bad for an economy that much of our financial media keep saying is mediocre, or subpar, or overburdened with debt, or can't compete with the Chinese, or all the other predictions of doom you've heard in recent years. Keep predicting a recession long enough, and eventually you can call yourself a seer.
