Very first thing remove the consol and shifter boot. Right away you'll see the tabs for 5th and Reverse and how it works. It will probably be very obvious why the shifter is not going behind the tabs. (1)One or both may have gotten bent, (2)check if shift ball cup broke, (3)adjustment screw (large nut) facing to the front of the car loose, (4) lastly check the adjustment screws on the coupler between the seat may have come loose. Probably an easy cure. Good Luck!
