I've done a lot of research
Maryanne (character) is confident in who she is and grounded in good old midwestern morals. Sees no need to go to those extremes to please.
Ginger is very shallow but predictable in her own right. Although she likely is not blowing all her dates, would do almost anything to please the right guy - one with money/status.
