Lee, thanks for the backup...some time ago, a guy posted here, asking about a good first deer rifle for his son. I suggested a good bolt action, maybe Ruger, in .270 Winchester caliber, topped with a Leupold scope. Others claimed the caliber was too lightweight...

BTW, just looked at some trajectory charts. You're right...for a non magnum, a .270 shoots damned flat. Those just under .30 caliber bullets seem to love to fly straight, don't they? What weight bullet do you use? 130 or so?
